I’m thankful for: today’s guest lecturer in class.
He is a ED nurse at Kaiser who came to teach us about disaster preparedness. I liked his high energy, his crazy stories of saving people in car crashes and after natural disasters, and his frank honesty on how things will be for us future nurses. My favorite moment was when he predicted jobs will open up for us in about 8 months because he already feels like the job outlook is getting better right now. All of the nurses at Washington Hospital have been warning us about how hard it is to find a job and advised us to pursue our BSNs and MSNs. My classmates and I are all so tired of school that we can’t possibly think about school applications right now, let alone going back to school for another couple of years. So it was so refreshing to hear this bit of optimism from this ED nurse. I swear, at that moment, all 18 of us sitting in the classroom breathed a sigh of relief at the same time. Also, he gave out prizes for those who answered questions. I got another multi-colored pen! These are a nurse’s best friend.
